Who exactly did you think was coming?
A mentor who discovers you. A partner who fixes the finances. A boss who finally sees it. Some external event that rearranges everything so you do not have to make a hard decision yourself.
None of it is coming, and here is the part that should land. It should not be coming. Nobody owes you a rescue from a life you are fully capable of changing.
In this episode I go after the rescue fantasy in all its disguises, including the ones that sound responsible. Someday planning. Justified resentment about support you did not get, which might be completely true and still changes nothing.
Then the psychology. Learned helplessness is one of the most replicated findings in the field, and the critical detail is that the giving up persists after conditions change. The cage door opens and the behavior does not update, because the brain already encoded a rule that says effort does not work here. You are not lazy. You are running an outdated rule your brain wrote during a season that already ended. And the only thing that rewrites it is small completed actions with a clear causal link, which is exactly why waiting is so destructive. Waiting produces zero data, so the rule never gets challenged.
Plus the person sitting in a running car waiting on a tow truck they called three years ago, and the man at Bethesda who had been waiting thirty eight years and answered do you want to get well with a reasonable explanation instead of a yes.
Get up. Turn the key.
Go listen.
