I am about to tell you something scary that I am living through in real time.
I am transitioning one of my shows from once or twice a week to full time. God has been asking me to do this for a while and I have been ignoring it, finding every reason the timing was not quite right. It is time now, and it is terrifying, because it means more research, more responsibility, more of me on the line, and I already know I am going to want to hold onto things I need to let go of, just because they are familiar.
This episode is about the trap almost everyone falls into, including me right now. Working harder is not the answer. Working backwards is. You get specific about the goal, get specific about who you need to become to hold it, and then work backwards to find out what she does and, more importantly, what she does not do anymore. Most people skip that second part entirely. They just keep adding effort in the wrong direction and call the exhaustion commitment.
Inside this one: why busy work is the most sophisticated form of avoidance there is, the brain science of loss aversion and why letting go of the familiar feels like a threat even when it is keeping you small, the suitcase analogy for why you cannot pack for two different lives at once, and Elijah in the wilderness, exhausted from his own busy work résumé, finally hearing God in the still small voice after the wind and the earthquake and the fire passed.
You can do anything and everything you want in this life. You cannot do anything and everything all at once. I keep trying to prove that wrong too.
Go listen. Watch me figure this out in real time.
