Nobody wakes up one morning and decides to forget who they are.
It happens in increments. The Bible sits unopened for a week and then a month. The noise gets louder. The comparison gets more targeted. The hard season stretches longer than you expected and the worry becomes the dominant voice and the truth becomes the thing you know intellectually but cannot feel in your body anymore.
And one day you look up and realize you have drifted. Not dramatically. Quietly. One reasonable distraction at a time.
That is what today’s episode is about. Coming back.
I went all the way in on the self-concept, which is the file your brain keeps on you, and how it gets built from whatever data you feed it most. The noise of social media and the news cycle and comparison has been feeding it data that is not the truth about who you are. And your nervous system has been carrying the weight of an identity that has drifted from the truth in ways that show up physically, as the slight tightening, the low-grade vigilance, the exhaustion that has nothing to do with how much sleep you got.
I talked about why the Bible is my answer. Not the performative religious answer. Because it is the only source that has never changed its mind about who I am based on my performance or my seasons or my mess. Fearfully and wonderfully made. Known before I was formed. Created for good works prepared in advance. Given a spirit of power, love, and a sound mind. That is not inspiration. That is identity. And feeding that to your self-concept consistently is the most powerful neurological input you have access to.
I also talked about the prodigal son coming to himself. Not after the circumstances improved. While he was still in the far country. The coming to himself was the turning point. The return to identity was the whole thing.
You might be in the far country right now. The remembering is available today.
Go listen. Then open the Bible before you open your phone.
